This auction is for this very rare and hard to find vintage Marshall Major Also known as the Marshall 200 Basketweave 4x12 speaker cabinet, Circa 1967-69. I believe after 1969 it would be checkerboard basketweave. The Serial number tag is still on the back and it is marked Made in England Serial No. 29126, there was a Stock number tag as well but it has been broken off, notice how part of it was pushed up under the serial number tag. I didn't have much luck finding info on marshall cabinet codes so if anyone can decode this please let me know.
It has the steel handles and Steel caster cups. It has it's share of snags to the tolex but most are pretty small, The cabinet itself is completely solid. Both of the front logo's are gone, Note the three small holes in the upper left corner where the 200 logo was, denoting that it is a Marshall Major cabinet and Not just a regular 4x12. I'm not sure about the originality of the speakers, Three speaker codes are (T1511) and date code of n14bk which would be oct 14 1969 so they are probably original and the one that still has the greenback cover is (T1221) G12M 75 Please see photo's. And three of the back screws are missing.
Measurements on casters are 32 x 29 1/2 x 14
Being a guitar player myself I had to test this out extensively before listing it and I have to say it sounds great, and even better with the cleaner tones. I cranked it pretty loud with my marshall jcm 800 head, and my solid state ampeg head and my Fender bassman head, And I played it the longest with the bassman and a couple different overdrive's and I was getting some serious SRV tone outta this thing.I think it's the basketweave that gives that, what Eddie Van Halen would call "brown Sound"
It was all good, no cracks or pops from the speakers.
I took nearly 100 digital photos of this so let me know if you would like to see more pics.

The Marshall 200 was released circa 1967 in response to the need for more power than the 100 watt stacks at the time. The 200 featured active tone controls and was nicknamed a "Pig" by David Bowie's guitar player [Mick Ronson] who swore by them and used his Pigs exclusively throughout the Ziggy Stardust era of late '60s - mid '70s.
